Whiteman Air Force Base

Whiteman is an Air Force Base named after Lieutenant George A. Whiteman, who was killed in the attack of Pearl Harbor, 1941. The base is located in Johnson County, Missouri and it has a total area of 13.4 km2. In the proximity of the base one can find the towns of Warrensburg and Knob Noster.

Whiteman AFB is home to the 509th Bomb Wing, so this means that there are lots of B-2 Spirit bombers at the base. Some other examples of aircraft found at Whiteman are: AH-64 Apache helicopters and B-60s. The present-day Commander of the base is Colonel Garrett Harencak.

Whiteman AFB has a multitude of housing possibilities. For outsiders, Whiteman Inn boasts on being a very good accommodation's house. Moreover, incoming DoD troops are also welcomed and they have special facilities for them and their families. However, there is a Pet Registration house where everyone must fully declare their pets.

According to the census of the year 2000, there are 3,814 people located at the base. The number of troops is not exactly known, because the base has decided not to communicate the numbers to the public. The primary mission of Whiteman is to conduct training exercises and to develop skills for the troops in case of air combat need. The educational facilities at the base for troops are very good, but there are no elementary schools around. The nearest town, Bedford, however, does have all the educational facilities needed by youngsters. Whiteman has recently received press on the occasion of a B-2 bomber who has received an "facelift". Whiteman does not have any active military missions, apart from the training sessions. The base’s logo feature some designed wings, the symbols of flight and air control.
